General info

• Pressing F10 will write the screen to a PCX file.
• Pausing/frame advance: You can press Num Lock to pause the game at any time, and press another key besides Num Lock to unpause it. If you hold down on Num Lock while the game is paused, it temporarily unpauses, so if you press Num Lock repeatedly you can get a “frame advance” of the game. You can only drive with a joystick or gamepad while you do this because keyboard input unpauses the game. If you want a screen shot of a certain point in an animation (like a splash) you can “frame advance” to it and hit F10. Hitting F10 will not write the box that says “paused” to the screen shot.
• Bonus race: If you get first place overall after the regular bronze race final, champion class, you will get to run a bonus race (regular silver wheels track 2). This works on both registered and shareware versions of Wacky Wheels.
• There is no difference between the different racers other than what they look like and what sound they make (they all drive the same speed, etc.).
• To write WACKY.CFG and the high score files to a directory other than the one that contains WW.EXE, set the APOGEECD environment variable to the directory you want to save the files to (for example, SET APOGEECD="c:/wacky"). This is useful if you want to run Wacky Wheels from a read-only drive, or if you want to keep several sets of game configurations and high score files.

Driving outside the walls

• Jumping is by far the fastest way of traveling outside the walls. On one track I timed my speed as 150 mph jumping, while I only went 99 mph on turbo. You can’t steer while jumping, but you can always stop to turn.
• There are a few minor bugs I noticed after I jumped over the walls (besides crashing the game). However, instead of trying to explain them I will leave you to find them out for yourself if you’re interested.
• If you’re driving inside a walled off area of a track, in some locations, there is an extra narrow space between the walls where there is just enough room to drive down it. In these areas, it is very easy (probably too easy) to run the go cart against one wall and back over the one behind it (see screenshots, shot 5).

Outside the walls it’s not all grass like it looks like from inside the track; some parts are mostly black. Sometimes you think you’re back at the track but it looks deserted and you drive right over the walls (try it to see what I mean). See the screenshots for pictures outside the walls. If you’re running Windows, your computer will lock up when the black area comes into view. If you drive far enough from the track, you will get stuck and not be able to drive anywhere. To get out or go through this area, you will have to use the “jump” cheat (see startup codes). You can turn the go cart even if you’re stuck so you can change direction.
